This is certainly a case of the old having to get along with the new, but it’s dynamite entertainment.
Hello there folks, it’s great to be back at my laptop and punching away at my keyboard with this week’s bingo article. For new friends and fans of bingo-room, my name’s Jeremy Stersky and this is my bingo zone. Join me as I uncover the secrets of old and the promises of the future.
A walk down memory lane
My love affair with this game began several years ago, and it has proven to be a bond forged in steel and branded with success. That’s because most everything I’ve come across in my online bingo travails has been a learning experience.
At the time of first game of bingo I remember thinking – is this really a game for young folks? Is it hip to be playing bingo? Like many others at the time, I too was prone to the stigma of bingo – that it was a game for pensioners, especially the old ladies’ Sunday club. How very wrong I was.
Get on board
Just the other day I was reading an article on bingo in the local newspaper here in London, England. It was an absorbing piece of literature on the rapid evolution of the game from its time in large bingo halls with fluorescent lights and buses of old grannies packing into the halls.
Here in the UK, the perception of bingo being is anything but. That’s because the game has been remarked and even re-engineered to cater to an Internet savvy audience of young, upwardly mobile individuals. The folks that can afford to play today’s typical bingo game are well versed in the online gaming literature.
More ways to win
What particularly struck me, in my early days, was the sheer size of the jackpots. It’s certainly not unheard of to hear of £2 million or more in jackpot prizes being given away at big name bingo events.
Looking ahead, it’s clear that younger punters at these bingo halls and online bingo site are going to be the norm. It’s not quite true that the age of the Internet has precluded the participation of older folks, as much as it is the sheer appeal that the bingo has for the now generation.
And on that note, what ever happened to that word which has become synonymous with winning games – ‘Bingo!’
