Yes, it’s that time of year again – Valentine’s Day. With all the lovers of the world making an extra-special effort to heap praise and adoration on their partners, this is truly one of my favourite days of the year. Come February 14th all that dreamy-eyed fascination that you have for your partner can bubble over and what better way to sprinkle some cheer than with Valentine’s Day Bingo.
I’m certainly not the sentimental type – not to the extremes that some folks are. But I do like to pay tribute to people who deserve it. When my mates Jessica and Darren suggested that I put something together for Valentine’s Day, I immediately concurred. I mean what better way to spread the love than through the world’s most social game? Bingo certainly has a trick or two up its sleeve when it comes to matters of the heart. Let’s explore some of the many possibilities in store.
How to prepare the Valentine’s Day games?
Firstly you’re going to want to personalize your own Valentine’s Day cards. This comes with a plethora of possibilities. What I’m going to do here is provide you with the simpler version first and then a more tailored version. The former option is easy to wrap your head around. All you do is select a few different colours of cardboard for the bingo cards. Because we’re dealing with a romantic day, the colours should be shades of red, pink or maroon.
At the top of the bingo cards – before you’ve selected the 5 x 5 or 9 x 3 grid formation, you can have the letters B-I-N-G-O or L-O-V-E-R printed on top. If you’re going for the 9 x 3 option then select an appropriate letter with 9 characters – such as V-A-L-E-N-T-I-N-E. Whatever your choice of word, make sure it meshes well with the theme of the game. With that sorted, you’ve now got your very own Valentine’s Day cards ready to game. Make sure that you use different combinations of numbers on each of the cards so that everyone isn’t shouting out BINGO at the same time.
Other options to try out
If you’re in the mood for presenting an altogether unique theme, then you can create a database of questions such as your favourite romantic scenes, places, meals, vacations and the like. Then match questions to answers. Instead of calling out numbers – as in regular bingo – you could call out answers to the questions that will appear on the bingo cards. This not only tests the knowledge of your players, but it requires them to be more involved in the gaming action. Be sure to compile enough testing questions to keep the interest levels high. And yes – it works.
Your guests can attend the function as Romeo & Julie did at the Capulet Ball – i.e. wearing masks. Or you can have the ladies dressed to the nines and the lads dressed in tuxedos. Whatever your personal desire, make sure that the event is truly something worth attending. A half-baked Valentine’s Day bingo event will not leave an indelible impression on anyone. I like to make a splash, so I always facilitate the evening with some finger foods such as salmon entrees and even some bubbly. These work wonders with the mood of the players and it will certainly make for a more entertaining evening.
